Guillemot press, a Cornish based Independent Publisher of Pamphlets and Beautiful Books commissioned me to illustrate four works of short-fiction in collaboration with The Word Factory in London.
Commissioned whilst on my MA, I generated pencil and watercolour imagery for the four stories – all dealing with themes of death, loss and tinges of apocalyptic change. It was a wonderful opportunity to refine my use of black and white and tonal watercolour, as well as digital overlaying and experimentation. All of these images are for sale. There will be print sets coming soon.
The Guillemot Factory is a collaboration between Guillemot Press and short story geniuses The Word Factory. For 2018 we have stories from Jessie Greengrass, Adam Marek, David Constantine and Carys Davies, all of them fully and boldly illustrated by the brilliant Donya Todd.
From Cathy Galvin at The Word Factory: ‘They look wonderful – please thank Donya from me: they link brilliantly visually… thank you for producing such beautiful pamphlets.‘
From Carys Davies ‘I love Donya’s dark, wonderfully strange and powerful illustrations. I couldn’t have imagined how anyone would illustrate this story, but looking at these, they feel completely right.’
From David Constantine ‘She seems – in her work – to have got to the heart of it.’
From Jessie Greengrass ‘The illustrations are wonderful, of course‘
You can buy the books individually by clicking on the name of your favourite writer on our Guillemot Factory page, or you can buy all four titles together here at the special price of £20. The series is printed in a limited edition on Mohawk Superfine papers and section sewn.
